ENNEAGRAM AT WORK: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3 Tuesdays, Oct. 10, 17, 24, 2006
(Earlybird fee: by Oct. 3) Are you able to communicate at work so that others truly understand what you mean to say? Can you give constructive feedback so that others do not feel defensive, but actually improve their performance? Can you manage conflict in a productive and respectful way? The Enneagram offers profound insights into our inner experience - our motivations, beliefs, focus of attention, and habits of thinking and feeling. Use this knowledge to develop concrete steps, specific to your Enneagram style, to relate more effectively with others. This program is designed for people already familiar with their Enneagram style - the instructor will help others identify their style prior to starting. Helen Peacock, MSc, (http://www.spiritualityatwork.org/www.Turning-Point-Intl.com) has been giving Enneagram teachings for over ten years and is the Past President of the International Enneagram Association. Her programs are always fascinating and popular. We are indeed fortunate to have her. She has studied with every major Enneagram author/teacher, most recently in California with Dr. Ginger Lapid-Bogda. Helen achieves extraordinary results for her corporate clients by applying her in-depth knowledge of the Enneagram motivational model to the areas of Leadership, Teambuilding and Change Management. LIFE BEYOND 100: Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 Hans Selye, the great Canadian ‘father’ of the concept of stress, said “You should strive to find a job which is not work but play.” But study after study has found that a majority of individuals are not happy with their work. And, indeed, they are not happy with their life! Forty percent of Americans are clinically depressed and another 40% are, at best, not happy. Freud believed that most people have a death wish and that attitude seems to be alive and well. This pervasive death wish may be a major factor in the remarkably pervasive failure to choose healthy habits. Average American life expectancy is cut by 22 years by unhealthy lifestyle, with only 3% of Americans having the 4 essential healthy habits and lifestyle to live an average healthy 100 years. But add safe techniques to maintain optimal levels of DHEA and calcitonin while minimizing free radicals and you then have the potential to live an average of 140 healthy years! And treat 85% of depressed individuals successfully without drugs! This workshop will provide you tools for a happy, healthy long life. Have a life wish – come join us to listen to and talk with this remarkable medical and spiritual pioneer. C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D. (http://www.spiritualityatwork.org/www.NormShealy.com) is an acclaimed neurosurgeon who founded the first comprehensive, holistic clinic for management of pain and stress management in 1971. The Shealy Institute became the most successful and most cost-effective pain clinic in the U.S, with 85% success in over 30,000 patients. The Shealy protocols for management of depression, migraine, fibromyalgia and back pain are increasingly being integrated into hospitals and individual practices. Early in his pioneering career, Dr. Shealy recognized the need to integrate mind-body-spirit both to be healthy and to relieve all kinds of pain. In 1978, he was instrumental in creating and was Founding President of The American Holistic Medical Association, which continues to emphasize the spiritual component of healing. In his study of the physiological effects of more than a dozen talented healers, Dr. Shealy has demonstrated in almost 120 patients that competent healers can change the computerized electroencephalogram, or brain map, from a distance and they can also enhance DHEA and beta endorphin production. Norm’s current research emphasizes the potential of spiritual energetics to enhance health and longevity by rejuvenating the body’s production of DHEA and Calcitonin, in reducing free radicals, and in reversing DNA damage. Norm has taught medicine at Harvard and other topflight medical schools, and is now President of Holos University Graduate Seminary, which offers doctoral programs in Spiritual Healing and Energy Medicine (http://www.spiritualityatwork.org/www.hugs-edu.org). Dr. Shealy holds 10 patents for innovative discoveries, has published over 300 articles and 23 books, the latest of which are LIFE BEYOND 100—SECRETS OF THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH and SOUL MEDICINE. His free e-newsletter is available at http://www.spiritualityatwork.org/www.NormShealy.com. Register early to ensure your place to learn from his amazing man of depth and commitment. REGISTRATION: $21 if received by Monday Nov. 8, or $26 following. Mail your name, phone number and e-mail address with your cheque to Pathways Church, c/o 30 Wertheim Court, Unit 24, Richmond Hill, Ont., L4B 1B9. http://www.spiritualityatwork.org/www.PathwaysChurch.ca, info@PathwaysChurch.ca. And don't forget to vote early Nov. 13 or at the advance polls. PATHWAYS, from Sherry Connolly: One of my ventures in life is my support for Pathways, a new United Church based in the Markham area (http://www.spiritualityatwork.org/www.PathwaysChurch.ca). Pathways is being created as a progressive, inclusive Christian community that is welcoming for those who may feel disaffected by aspects of more institutional church structures. It began last December with an address by staunch supporter Bishop John Spong, and its formation and direction is evolving according to the needs and desires of its growing community. The minister is the Rev. Mary Joseph, an immigration lawyer and long-time friend of mine and of the Centre for Spirituality at Work, and the jazz-singing emcee at our 2003 conference at the University of Waterloo. You may also know Mary as the leader of Seekers' Dialogue, the 2004/5 speaker series that included Marianne Williamson, Romeo Dallaire, and others. I am honoured to work with Mary on some of the programming initiatives that Pathways is offering, including this rare opportunity to hear Dr. Norm Shealy while he is in town for a conference. Through his friend John Spong, Norm knows of Pathways and has extended his stay to offer this program to support Pathways fundraising. Please take a look at http://www.spiritualityatwork.org/www.PathwaysChurch.ca -- it may be the spiritual community you are seeking. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

SUCCESS at WORK: Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006.
(Earlybird fee: by Nov. 15) Many work environments are places of ego, competition and fear. How
does one cope with such an environment? The quality of our emotional
response to such situations is critical, as it influences the nature of
the outcome. Fear can manifest as conflict, anger, judgment, resentment
and guilt that wastes our emotional energy and reduces our effectiveness
at work and at home. You will have the opportunity to interactively learn
mental, emotional and spiritual tools that will enhance your ability to
lead more harmonious and productive love-based lives. These practical
tools will help you to accept, forgive and understand how to resolve
conflict in your day-to-day life. By the power of your choice you can
protect the self-esteem of yourself and others and re-build supportive,
respectful and mutual win-win relationships. LOCATION: Our partner, the Toronto Grace Hospital workplace, 650

AWAKE AT WORK: Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006. (Earlybird
fee: by Nov. 21) Most of us spend almost all of our time living in our heads. Our
technology-driven workplace and culture demands that we think faster and
faster to the point where multi-tasking has become the norm. Unfortunately
the more time we spend in our heads, the less we are aware of our
bodies... until its too late, and that usually means pain or illness.
Calming the mind and coming home to our bodies are two of the cornerstones
of Yoga & Meditation, which translate to being awake and in the
present moment. Tonight, learn about developing the awareness that bridges
the gap between the mind and body, so that you can live a more balanced,
harmonious existence. Learn through dialogue and simple effective off the
mat yoga & breathing techniques how, even in the midst of frustration
and chaos, its possible to calm and balance the mind and body. Amidst the
stress, uncertainty, deadlines and speed of work, remember that calm,
happy people are infectious! Be the change you want to see. Come as you
are, no special clothing needed. LOCATION: Our partner, the Toronto Grace Hospital workplace, 650

WORDS @ WORK: Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007.
(Earlybird fee: by Jan. 18) At work we are challenged regularly to "think outside the box". How
often do you try to do this, but with less success than you would like?
Join poet Catherine Graham for an evening of thinking through the
box. Discover a well-reasoned and imaginative approach to problem-solving
with metaphors, transforming your challenges by using words and images.
The result of linking both your left brain (analytical) and your right
brain (imagistic) is insightful and practical information that emerges
organically from thinking through the box. A past participant claims: "If
you have half a mind to solve a problem, it's not enough! Catherine
Graham's training has given us techniques to combine the strengths of both
the analytical and the creative halves of our minds to develop innovative,
lasting solutions." LOCATION: Our partner, the Toronto Grace Hospital workplace, 650

discovery. It's already there, ready for you to be living it out. Tonight, begin
to consider six focused questions that can lead to creating your own practical
blueprint for a major career or life change, or for simply an adjustment in your
current circumstances. These questions help you to clarify your "AT" position
and to deal with the uncertainty and anxiety that can surround your present
reality. Normally we think, plan and act from our own current perspectives.
However, through the journey of "uncovery", you may uncover key "markers" in
your past that lie hidden like diamonds beneath the barnacles that encrust them!

brief, focused and powerful statement of purpose can guide you as you initiate,
evaluate, and refine your life`s activities. But few people create their mission
statement on their own. Take this rare opportunity with professional guidance to

| ENGAGING the IMAGINATION: Monday, April 2, 2007. Earlybird fee: by Friday, March 23
"Leaders fail, not because of a lack of strategy or resources, but from a
failure of imagination". Michael Jones, Artful Leadership Who am I really?
As the future unfolds we are called upon to steward the commons space - where an awakened imagination is essential for engaging complexity. Generative conversations that explore fundamental questions are a new leadership art form. They serve as a portal to our innate wisdom and bring the invisible nature of interdependence and wholeness to light. Through the cultivation of conversational capabilities, we will be able to participate in co-creating a sustainable future for our organizations and communities.
Michael and Mary will invoke our imaginative capacity and emerging role as stewards of our commons space with dialogue, live music, story and poetry. They will offer metaphors drawn from arts and nature that expand the boundaries of our language and also the boundaries of our world, stimulating our thinking about our own inner work of leadership. They will also offer a variety of unique, practical and evocative tools to help us convene others in new forms of collective leadership.
In previous sessions, leaders started the day with statements like "I have been sucked over to
the dark side-I'm always chasing the bottom line", and "I have cultivated leadership ADD",
and ended it saying "conversation is our new art form as leaders." Do join us, and return to
work inspired to imaginatively transform group process, decision-making, and action.
MICHAEL JONES, MEd, (www.PianoScapes.com) has been a beloved friend
of the Centre for Spirituality at Work since the beginning, leading conferences and programs.
Over the years, Michael has quietly established himself as an inspired speaker and facilitator, accomplished pianist, an evocative storyteller, and a fresh and gifted voice in weaving together metaphors from the arts to introduce new perspectives in leadership development and dialogue practice. Michael has introduced new leadership concepts throughout Canada and the US for extraordinarily diverse sectors, including healthcare, corporate, religious, consulting, military, voluntary, education, municipal, and more. He is a core faculty member with the MIT Dialogue Project and Dialogos facilitating programs in leadership and the art of thinking together. He is presently a core faculty member and steward for The Creative Leadership Series -- a four week intensive program being offered to executives in the 10th largest private construction company in the worlds through a partnership between The McGregor Burns Academy of Leadership, University of Maryland , and The Center for Professional Excellence, University of Texas. A charter consulting member with the Society for Organizational Learning and a Senior Fellow with the McGregor Burns Academy of Leadership, University of Maryland, Michael has been a featured speaker at the Greenleaf Centre for Servant Leadership, The Minneapolis Masters Forum and The Hershey Penn State Medical Centre. He has written two books on leadership and creative practice: Creating an Imaginative Life (Conari Press, 1995) and Artful Leadership: Awakening the Commons of the Imagination (Trafford, March 2006). Michael was the founding artist with Narada Records where his many CD's of original piano compositions have served as benchmarks for contemporary solo piano recordings.

| NATURAL PROCESSES at WORK Saturday, May 5, 2007. (Earlybird fee:
by Apr. 30) Connecting with the earth is often a path to discernment and meaning. Learn
simple techniques to awaken and deepen your engagement with nature and to lead
you to a place of peace. Bring with you a question, desire, or struggle related
to your work - or other aspect of life -- and experience how resting in Creation
can awaken new insights and clarity within you. Pack a lunch and come pause,
reflect, wonder, laugh, and enjoy a mini-retreat in a natural setting on Toronto
Island. You'll be amazed at how refreshed, possibly renewed, that you feel when
you step off the ferry back onto the mainland. And you'll have new eyes for
nature, even in downtown Toronto! LOCATION: Meet at St. Andrew-by-the-Lake Anglican Church, about
a 15 minute walk east from the Centre Island dock (catch the 9:30 am ferry) on the south
side of the inner channel where many of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club boats are moored.
Better still, bring your bike over! Ask for a map when you buy your ferry ticket
($6.00 return). The mainland ferry docks are at the foot of Bay St. on the south side of
Queen's Quay just west of the Westin Harbour Castle hotel. Paid parking lots are nearby,
but be warned, they're expensive -- you may want to take TTC. Before coming, explore
www.TorontoIsland.org and
